ISPLS WEBINAR - Best Available Floodplain Layer
ONE (1) INDIANA ELECTIVE CONTINUING EDUCATION UNIT*

Speaker: Doug Wagner, DNR

 

This webinar will explain what the “Best Available Floodplain Layer” is and how it was developed. I will also discuss the use of this layer for regulating development in the local communities under the requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). I will also provide live demonstrations of a couple of the Division of Water’s websites to showcase the information available to professionals to provide them the most up to date information available. The review of the websites will show professionals where to find the data they are looking for and where to go to download it.

*A short quiz at the end of the webinar will be required to qualify for CEUs.

SPEAKER BIO
Doug Wagner, CFM, serves as senior water planner for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources' Division of Water’s Floodplain Management Section.

Doug received a B.S. from Purdue University in Building Construction and Contracting. As a requirement of his degree he complete one year of land surveying while at Purdue. He has been involved in the construction industry for over 30 years with his primary focus being on residential and light commercial structures. He has worked as a local building inspector, floodplain administrator, and zoning administrator since January 2014, earning his Floodplain Managers Certification in September of 2014.

Doug joined the Department of Natural Resources in November of 2018. In both his previous and current roles Doug has reviewed hundreds of EC’s and assisted local officials, surveyors, insurance agents, and property owners with proper completion and understanding of the form. In his current role his primary duties are education and outreach across the state with floodplain management and the National Flood Insurance Program. He has also successfully completed the Emergency Management Institute’s elevation certificate self-study courses.
