2016 Excellence
in GIS Awards

The Indiana Geographic Council’s Excellence in GIS Awards recognize organizations for their use of GIS technology to improve our world.

Preserving Indiana's Historic Government Land Survey Records

The Indiana State Archives Land Survey Records were digitally preserved and archived for access online through an Indiana Geographic Information Council Pilot Project Grant with the State Historic Restoration Advisory Board. The grant provided funding to get approximately 20 percent (29,500) of these historical documents scanned, digitized, and/or photographed and to develop and indexed file-naming convention to help document and use these new digital records. The project demonstrated the ability to georeferenced these new digital records to IndianaMap. The future goal is to complete the renaming of the digital files for all remaining records and to hyperlink these scanned images to their associated township range layer on IndianaMap.
